What Is Biomechanical Sportswear? The Science Behind Floky, Explained

Walk into any sports shop and the compression section looks broadly the same: tight-fitting sleeves, socks, tights and shirts, all claiming to boost performance and speed up recovery. Most of them do very little of either. To understand why Floky is different, you need to understand what biomechanical sportswear actually is — and what conventional compression gets wrong.
Conventional compression vs biomechanical compression
Standard compression garments apply roughly uniform pressure across a body part. Squeeze the calf, squeeze the arm, squeeze the torso. The theory is that the pressure improves blood flow and stabilises muscle mass. That theory is broadly correct — but blunt.
The problem is that your body doesn't work uniformly. When you lunge for a low forehand, the load through your quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves and Achilles tendons is anything but uniform. When you swing a racket at speed, the deceleration force travels asymmetrically through your forearm, elbow, shoulder and back. When you sprint, land, twist, or pivot, the biomechanics are specific to that movement — and the stresses on your soft tissue are specific too.
Uniform compression treats all of that identically. Biomechanical compression doesn't.
What "biomechanical" actually means
Floky's garments are engineered around three principles that separate them from generic compression wear:
- Graduated, differentiated compression zones. Rather than one compression level throughout, different areas of the fabric apply different pressures — mapped to the specific muscles, tendons and joints under stress in each sport. On our ACTIVATOR shorts, for instance, the compression profile is different at the quad, the hamstring, and the adductor, because each of those muscles does different work during a padel lunge.
- Vibration-dampening structure. Muscle vibration is one of the largest hidden contributors to soft-tissue damage. Every time you strike a ball, land from a jump, or absorb a change of direction, your muscles vibrate — micro-oscillations that accumulate into micro-tears over hundreds of repetitions. Floky fabrics use silicone applications and specific weave structures that absorb and dissipate that vibration before it causes damage. - Targeted muscle support. Silicone applications sit at specific points on the fabric — not decorative but functional. They activate proprioceptors (the sensory receptors that tell your brain where your limbs are in space), improve joint stability, and cue postural muscles to fire earlier and more efficiently. Why it matters
The end-user impact of all this comes down to three things: fewer injuries, better performance during play, and faster recovery afterwards.
Reduced vibration means less soft-tissue damage, which means fewer overuse injuries — the tendinopathies, the elbow strains, the calf pulls that quietly end amateur seasons. Better proprioception means sharper reactions and better balance during play. And graduated compression, applied correctly, meaningfully improves venous return in the hours after exercise, flushing metabolic waste and shortening recovery windows.
